General repairs
Brakes, suspension, steering, clutches, batteries and the everyday work that keeps a vehicle on the road, for petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles.
Sound familiar? Squealing, grinding, or a longer pedal than usual when you brake.

Signs you might notice
If any of these describes your vehicle, this is the page for it.
Squealing, grinding, or a longer pedal than usual when you brake.
Knocking over bumps, or the vehicle sitting unevenly.
The steering pulls to one side, or the wheel sits off-centre.
The clutch bites high, slips under load, or the pedal feels wrong.
The battery is flat after standing, or a bulb or a wiper needs replacing.
What the work covers
- Brakes — pads, discs, calipers, hoses and handbrake adjustment.
- Suspension and steering — springs, dampers, bushes, joints and track rods.
- Clutches and the gearbox work that goes with them.
- Batteries, bulbs, wipers and the small jobs that do not warrant a page of their own.
- Petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Work that fits none of the other headings — ask, and we will tell you whether it is something we take on.
How it works
Tell us what the vehicle is doing, by telephone or through the enquiry form.
We inspect it and confirm what is actually needed rather than what the symptom suggests.
We agree the work with you before starting, and come back to you if we find anything else.
We telephone you when the vehicle is ready, and tell you both what was done and what we noticed that is worth watching but did not need doing today.
Why choose AutoTech Garage?
What you can hold us to on this job.
We agree the work with you first
We explain what we have found and what putting it right involves, and nothing beyond what you have agreed is carried out without a telephone call first.
We test before we replace
A fault code records the circuit the vehicle was unhappy about, not the component that failed. We test to confirm the cause rather than replacing the part a code names.
Whatever your vehicle runs on
We work on petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles. Tell us which you have when you get in touch so the right time and equipment are set aside.
Common questions
Do you work on hybrid and electric vehicles?
Yes. We work on petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles. Tell us which you have when you book so the right time and equipment are set aside for it.Can you tell me what brakes or a clutch will cost?
Once we know the vehicle, most of this work is a known quantity — pads and discs, a battery, a clutch — so it is a fair question to put to us on the telephone before you bring the car in. What cannot be priced is the symptom rather than the job: a pull to one side is a tracking adjustment on one car and a seized caliper on another, and those are not the same piece of work. We confirm which of them you have before quoting for either. Nothing is carried out until you have been told what it will come to and have agreed to it.What should I bring when I drop the vehicle off?
The keys, the locking wheel-nut key if your car has one — without it a wheel cannot come off, and a surprising number of them live in the boot rather than the glovebox — and anything a previous garage gave you in writing about the same problem. If a part has already been replaced for this fault, tell us: it changes where we start looking, and it is the difference between diagnosing the car and diagnosing it twice. What if the job I need is not listed here?
Ask anyway. These pages cover the work we are asked for most often, not everything we do, and if a job is not something we take on we will say so plainly. Will you tell me before doing extra work?
Always. Nothing beyond what you have agreed is carried out without a telephone call first.
Talk to us about your vehicle
Tell us the make, model and what it is doing, and we will tell you what the work involves before anything is agreed.
